Wireless Cable Replacement
The Wireless Serial Adapter (CSA) eliminates conventional
RS-232 serial cables through Bluetooth® wireless technology.
This small adapter has a Class 2 Bluetooth radio with a range
up to 10 meters/30 feet and an integrated antenna. The CSA enables a
device with a standard 9-pin serial port to communicate with another CSA
or other Bluetooth enabled device. Using the CSA couldn’t be
easier because no drivers are necessary—just plug it in and your device
connects wirelessly!
Serial Cable Replacement
Using a CSA pair, replace the standard RS-232 cable
between your laptop and printer with a wireless Bluetooth
connection.

Passive Serial Bluetooth Receiver
A CSA adds Bluetooth wireless technology to
industrial equipment which can be controlled and monitored by a
Bluetooth enabled Windows system.

Included in the package is an AC adapter which powers the CSA, a
9-pin female/female null modem connector and a CD with the configuration
utility and documentation.
Flexible Configuration Software
The Wireless Serial Adapter Configuration Utility is an easy-to-use
application which lets you reprogram many of the default settings on
your CSA. It also enables you to set up connections and designate
whether a CSA is in Acceptor or Initiator mode. The utility runs under
Windows 98SE/Me/2K/XP.
CSA Configuation Utility Window
You can also program the Wireless Serial Adapter manually through AT
commands via a terminal device. The Socket Wireless Serial Command Set
User’s Guide, located on the installation CD, provides extensive options
for custom configurations.
The CSA is primarily designed for use with industrial serial
equipment. It is not intended for some consumer serial devices including
but not limited to: cellular phone data cables, 56K modems, digital camera
data cables, joysticks, mice, keyboards, Pocket PC cradles, scanners, etc.
The CSA is not designed to Bluetooth enable
your computer for ActiveSync; use Socket’s USB
Adapter or CF
Card + Adapter instead.
When devices use different signals, (e.g.,
DTR/DSR for hand-shaking or not) such as a “3-Wire” serial
interface, flow control may not be necessary. Read this Tech
Note to see if the CSA can work
with your serial device.
Custom versions of
the CSA are available to OEMs. Please contact Socket’s Scansmart.

Power Mechanisms
The CSA operates from DC power and can be powered via one of two
mechanisms:
- Supplying DC power to the power jack:
- The acceptable supply voltage for normal operation ranges
from 3.5 to 5.5 VDC, with an Absolute Maximum of 5.6V.
- The Power supply must rise to its final voltage in less
than 1mS.
- For specifications of the power jack's physical connector,
refer to SMK part # LGP3131-0111 at http://www.smk.co.jp.
- From Pin 9 of the DB-9 Connector: The acceptable supply
voltage ranges from 3.5 to 12 VDC (Absolute Maximum 12V).
The CSA was not intended to be connected directly to a
vehicle's electrical system although a cigarette lighter
adapter/DC charger is permissible.
